Laren Montessori Summer Program is an extension of our regular school year, to help keep the children’s progress moving forward during the summer months in the same secure, trusting environment they have been in each day this school year. It is a full day program from 8 or 9 weeks long (depending on the start of the next school year) and is offered to all current students, prospective students, and alumni. The daily schedule is the same as the regular school year with before care beginning at 7:30a.m., class time starting at 8:45a.m. and ending at 3:30p.m., and after care until 5:00p.m. – NOTE: Before and After School Care hours have been adjusted to adhere to post-pandemic cleaning requirements. We hope to resume our regular schedule in the near future. A current Before and After School schedule can be provided upon request.

Classes are taught by our Laren Montessori School Staff and with assistance. The prospective student is required to return a completed application for the next school year in order to enroll for our summer program. The summer school program will help a prospective student to get adjusted to our program so he/she is ready for the fall.

The first half of each day is spent learning in the Montessori environment with lessons and work in the garden one morning each week. The second half of each day is spent in group activities, including art, yoga, water play, bicycle/scooter, sports, and games. The teachers base activities on weekly summer themes and there is a field trips at least 4-5 times during the program (i.e. Navy Pier Shoreline Tour, Chicago Nature Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo or Brookfield Zoo, SoHo Library, Water Park, Sandridge Nature Walk, etc.).

Tennis lessons are also offered once per week through Live 4 Tennis, a children’s tennis program taught by Coach Don Hawkins. Enrollment forms for the tennis program will be sent home before the summer program begins and there is a separate charge for these lessons paid directly to the coach Live 4 Tennis.

The students will pack their own daily snacks for morning and afternoon as well as their own lunch every day. Possibility the teacher will be asking the parents for the snacks and supplies for the classroom project as part as our curriculum. We sell ice cream throughout the summer which your child can purchase for their afternoon snack on certain days.
