Exposing students to different cultures can accelerate learning.  Ms. Mulyani is a native Indonesian who’s been teaching the Indonesian Cultural Dance for over two decades here at Laren Montessori School.  Ms. Mulyani is deeply passionate about sharing her culture and traditions through the art of dance with the students.  During this pivotal age when their minds readily absorb knowledge, music, rhythm, and the art of dance play a pivotal role in fostering confidence, character, and beauty of cultural awareness?  Through dance, they also learn the valuable skills of active listening and visualizing music.  Interested in learning strategies about how to implement culture in Montessori classrooms, and how those strategies can serve as vehicles for teaching? The students would be performs in various showcase for the school fundraiser functions such as Winter Concert, Cultural/Variety Show, and Spring Concert.  The students are experiencing wearing traditional outfit made and shipped from Indonesia.  The traditional outfits are variety as we all know Indonesia is the biggest Archipelago in the world.  It’s depending what dances and from what islands are the dance from (i.e: from Sumatra, Betawi, Java, Bali, etc.).  The students will learn a lot of things and definitely thinking outside of the box.

This class will read classic and newly released picture books to inspire conversation and art-making that brings your child’s imagination to life.  Art projects may include painting, hands-on crafts, coloring, and printmaking that will encourage your child to love reading and inspire them to be creative.

Good-Fit Reading, the sessions were designed with literacy professionals to help kids love reading and meet reading benchmarks, such as comprehension, fluency, and enhancing vocabulary. By combining two subject areas, we strongly believe that art-based literacy lessons will help to motivate your child and improve listening skills. Whether your child is just beginning to read or has a grasp on basic reading concepts, the read-alouds, discussions, and art making will maximize their creative instincts. For ages 3.5 through 6, we offer our Book Club

Music Legato Class by Mrs. Harvey:

Music is soothing part of our brain to make us feeling happy, free, safe, joy, and having positive inspiration.

Laren’s After School Program Music Teacher though by our lead Montessori teacher.  She’s been mastered with a strong musical acumen, began her musical career at early age, serving as organist and pianist in her community.  As her musical skills evolved, which is one of her most prominent qualities.  She is a disciplined musician who can seamlessly move throughout all styles of music, demonstrating a keen sense for any musicals, the sensitivity and technical skills required for classical music, and the persistent groove needed to play in rhythm.

Additionally, Mrs. Harvey is teaching music to the students and they are learning an Indonesian Traditional instrument called Angklung and Choir to perform at our yearly fundraisers functions.

Korean as a second language:

This second language we offer for all students for our second language with no additional charge.  This is a part of the curriculum at Laren Montessori School.  Mrs. Miran Harvey roots in South Korea, she has taught the children songs, words, and phrases in Korean.  It is incredible to watch young children speak and interact in a different language, fostering students’ cultural values and expanding their young minds.  Miran Harvey’s vision holds true and steady to Laren Montessori’s educational goals.

Yoga Class:

We included Yoga in our curriculum as to opening the class in the morning for line time.  Yoga is an activity that includes breathing techniques, yoga poses and mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of focusing your attention on the present moment. In yoga, the students learning use breathing and yoga poses to help the mind calm. They feel love, calm, focusing on moving, yoga poses, and happy whenever this class in session.  It’s amazing how this movement impacted young students.  We let the each student chose their pose and others will followed.  That way, each individual student feels validated and able to lead.
